馬蒂爾達問里昂，「是童年苦還是人生苦」。里昂沒有回答她。她太年輕，她只有童年。也只是在她父母姐姐倒在血泊中的槍聲里倉促完成。所以里昂把生命交給她，再給她些時間來成長。然後，有一天她會明白，人生從頭到尾，是破碎的片段。過早成熟的童年和沒心沒肺的童年，都不可避免的帶著成長的疼痛。然而即使我們成長的足夠成熟，我們依然無力。如同我們孩童時那樣，無力。

馬蒂爾達就是喜歡這個穿著黑色舊大衣的男人。從在樓梯口抽著煙和他說話。然後發現這個沉默寡言的男人其實是職業殺手。然後說服他教她殺人。她一直跟著他。這個纖瘦蒼白的小女孩不再抽菸，只是乖巧的和他一起生活，為他唯一的朋友那株綠葉欣長的植物澆水，買牛奶，學著擺弄那支狙擊槍。

後來這個14歲的少女對房東說「里昂不是我得父親。他是我的愛人。」驚世駭俗。如同她平靜的對里昂說「里昂，我好險改上你了。知道嗎？這是我的初戀。」驚的這個不苟言笑的中年男人潑了一身的牛奶。

里昂什麼都沒說。他依然那樣冷淡不苟言笑。後來他為馬蒂爾達的家人報了仇。他丟開他，拉開手中的引線和馬蒂爾達的仇人一起在手榴彈的轟響中碎裂。馬蒂爾達身上是血，眼睜睜看著硝煙騰起，自己的心也碎裂開來，無比疼痛。她一個人回到養育院，懷裡抱著那株里昂的朋友。然後把它移進土中。那植物孤伶伶的立著，沉默不語。

印象深刻的是里昂臨死時的那一幕。他渾身是血的躺在地上，淡漠的臉上忽然浮起微笑，把手榴彈的拉還塞進仇人手中。「這是馬蒂爾達讓我帶給你的禮物。」那樣從容不迫，心滿意足的表情。我不由愕然，內心抽痛起來。

sting唱著「that's not the shape of my heart」。馬蒂爾達永遠失去了里昂，里昂也用遠的失去了馬蒂爾達。這樣相依為命的兩個人，曖昧不明或是心寄對方都沒有了意義;「君生我未生，我生君已老」也沒有了意義。馬蒂爾達那樣寂寞的抱著綠葉青蔥的植物，這個瘦弱的小女孩只是哭泣，全然不是那個坐在樓梯上手裡夾著煙的尖利少女。希望和溫暖瞬間破碎。幸福只是場幻覺。命運面前所有人都如此無力。如此的無力。

    紐約貧民區住著一個義大利人，名叫里昂（尚·雷諾飾），他是一名職業殺手。一天，鄰居家小姑娘馬蒂爾達敲開他的房門，要求在他這裡暫避殺身之禍。原來，鄰居家的主人是警察的眼線，只因含污了一小包毒品而遭惡警剿滅全家的懲罰。在全家都慘遭黑幫毒手之後，馬蒂爾達央求殺手里昂訓練她，讓她成為和他一樣的殺手，以便為家人報仇。

    馬蒂爾達得到里昂的留救，開始幫里昂管家並教其識字，里昂則教她使槍，天真無邪、古怪精靈的馬蒂爾達喚醒了外表冷漠的里昂內心的溫情，兩人相處融洽。馬蒂爾達跟蹤惡警，貿然去報仇，反倒被抓。里昂及時趕到，將她救回。他們再次搬家，但馬蒂爾達還是落入惡警之手。里昂撂倒一片警察，再次救出馬蒂爾達並讓她通過通風管道逃生，並囑咐她去把他積攢的錢取出來。里昂化裝成警察想混出包圍圈，但被惡警識破。最後一刻，里昂引爆了身上的炸彈……


    《這個殺手不太冷》由著名導演呂克·貝松執導，是一部完全美國好萊塢式的法國導演作品，例如其中有一幕戲在公寓內，短短12分鐘就發射了350發子彈的速度完全是好萊塢的作風；但其中的影像風格及故事情節仍保留了法國片特有的表現手法，是部有藝術感的商業電影。

    馬蒂爾達的扮演者娜塔莉·波特曼被媒體稱為「奧黛麗·赫本第二」的（Natalie Portman）。1994年，12歲的娜塔莉從2000名候選者中脫穎而出，被大導演呂克·貝松（Luc Besson）相中，出演《這個殺手不太冷》，從此一炮而紅
