      骷髏傑克在萬眾喝彩中豪華登場，蒼白的面孔浮現著掩飾不住的得意，纖細的手指在火焰映照中不斷舞動。

      嘿，我是萬聖節之王，他想。



萬聖節是什麼？

      「糖果還是惡作劇？」你打開門，cos成南瓜王吸血鬼的孩子們拿著南瓜燈出現在你面前，「糖果還是惡作劇？」

       兩千多年前，歐洲的天主教會把11月1日定為「天下聖徒之日」 (ALL HALLOWS DAY) 。「HALLOW」 即聖徒之意。傳說自公元前五百年，居住在愛爾蘭、蘇格蘭等地的凱爾特人 (CELTS) 把這節日往前移了一天，即10月31日。他們認為該日是夏天正式結束的日子，也就是新年伊始，嚴酷的冬季開始的一天。那時人們相信，故人的亡魂會在這一天回到故居地在活人身上找尋生靈，藉此再生，而且這是人在死後能獲得再生的唯一希望。而活著的人則懼怕死魂來奪生，於是人們就在這一天熄掉爐火、燭光，讓死魂無法找尋活人，又把自己打扮成妖魔鬼怪把死人之魂靈嚇走。之後，他們又會把火種燭光重新燃起，開始新的一年的生活。傳說那時凱爾特人部落還有在10月31日把活人殺死用以祭奠死人的習俗。

       到了公元1世紀，佔領了凱爾特部落領地的羅馬人也漸漸接受了萬聖節習俗，但從此廢止了燒活人祭死人的野蠻做法。羅馬人慶祝豐收的節日與凱爾特人儀式結合，戴著可怕的面具，打扮成動物或鬼怪，則是為了趕走在他們四週遊盪的妖魔。這也就是今天全球大部份人以古靈精怪的打扮，來慶祝萬聖節的由來。時間流逝，萬聖節的意義逐漸起了變化，變得積極快樂起來，喜慶的意味成了主流。死魂找替身返世的說法也漸漸被摒棄和忘卻。到了今天，象徵萬聖節的形象、圖畫如巫婆、黑貓等，大都有友善可愛和滑稽的臉。

       當然，這只是官方說法。


事實上萬聖節是什麼？

       在不為人知的地方，存在著「節日的世界」。在這些世界裡，居民們都會為了每年一度的節日而忙碌上整整一年，情人節城也好聖誕節城也罷，自然也有萬聖節城的存在。

       萬聖節城的居民為了今天－－萬聖節的慶典，努力了一年，在偉大的南瓜王傑克·斯柯林頓的帶領下，在各色鬼怪的萬眾一心下，尖叫與恐怖將於今日降臨大地。

       醉醺醺的愛爾蘭人傑克給了魔鬼一口暖酒，說：「上樹喝，更有意思。」

       傑克是一個愛惡作劇的酒鬼。有一天晚上，他把一個魔鬼騙上樹，然後在樹幹上刻了個十字架，讓魔鬼下不來。後來魔鬼不得不向他哀求，然後傑克就與魔鬼約法三章，保證以後他再也不會引誘傑克去做壞事，傑克才讓他下樹。傑剋死後，魔鬼報復了，它讓傑克上天不得入地無門，罰他提著燈籠永遠在人世里滿無目的的流浪，手裡只有一盞燈籠取暖。

       當然，這也是官方說法。


真正的傑克是誰？

       傑克·斯柯林頓是萬聖節城整蠱辦法最多，最受大家歡迎的明星。每年的萬聖節慶典他總是意氣風發的登場，製造恐怖，接受歡呼，儘管他也有過厭倦這種生活，試圖綁架生蛋老人並取而代之的時候，但歸根結底，傑克·斯柯林頓仍然是那個無所不能的南瓜王，永遠的萬聖節之王。


       每每到萬聖節之際，總會想到蒂姆·波頓，想到《聖誕夜驚魂》，想到骷髏傑克。胖子波頓想像出來的那個有著詩人般陰鬱敏感的氣質，蒼白憂鬱的面孔的南瓜王在十三年之後的今天仍然形象鮮明甚至已經成為了符號。他是萬聖節的最佳代表。


       今天，無數的妖魔鬼怪將遊走四方，你或許會遇到德古拉，或許會碰見狼人，抑或與科學怪人不期而遇－－當你正在琢磨這些cosplayer的專業水準時，他們已經嬉笑著與你擦肩而過。今晚是他們的節日。
