Whale Rider

 It was not a surprise that there were no surprises at the end of the movie, except for the way the girl saved the whale. I know when somebody is very close to absolutely negative about something, he could not be absolutely right and objective. I won』t hesitate to say that some of the characters in the movie are lovely, though not very talented played, but excuse me, the movie Whale Rider is a fat failure that allows the watchers, which is too friendly of the film makers to the audience, by the way, to figure out what is surely going to happen at the end. No interests which part of the globe the director was from, but for American people, who, unfortunately have an evil city called Hollywood in their territory, this movie is a successful sleeping pill. The reasonable guess would be that the director was very passionate and proud of the culture and history of whatever part of New Zealand the story happened in the movie, so he or she was kind of lost or confused if it would be made a drama or a documentary or simply a nature-beauty-scene collection or something else. As an individual form a bigger country which has numerous races which have almost uncountable identical cultures, I totally understand and appreciate that being self conscious to pay respect to valuable heritages and keep the traditions alive is going to be so necessary and worthy, but none of those motivations will promise anything to make a drama excellent that is worth the 100 minutes of the audiences』; and nobody should have used any of them to sell the mane of a movie.
    Not being very sensitive about different cultures might be one of my reasons why I don』t like this movie. We see all kinds of people who are from almost every corner of the world, so people here in the great US of A won』t so easy to get surprised and moved by some stories that sound like fairy tales from a place where people speak English(Really? Why? If you dare to say so, Mister!). Nobody was crucified and no weapons were drawn, so it is still a peaceful world out there. We have tears everywhere, so more or fewer don』t make that much difference, anyway.
    She is standing there, just a little bit stronger than the sea wind, staring at the furthest point where the curly horizon of the endless sea merges into the sky. Apparently the complications and confusions in her mind are truly overwhelming, incomprehensible and unbearable to the little girl. Tragically, being shown too many times of the similar scenes is too complicated, confusing, truly overwhelming, incomprehensible and unbearable to the audience as well. People in the movie tried too hard, which did not make it a good one, but right the opposite. Telling a simple story which needs twenty minutes to be told for a hundred and some more minutes is a crime, seriously. It is not on Discovery Channel, so slow motions(to the reviewer’s eyes) and beautiful nature scenes and great sound tracks just make it even more boring. When I was watching, it seemed almost stopped to me somehow, for several times; since there were no tears on this critical reviewer’s face to wipe off, the movie just gave him enough time to fall asleep or otherwise pick up the nastiest words which are used here to criticize for fun. They tried too hard to make it easy and simple like everyday life, but our lives are much more exciting than that; they tried too hard to make it deep and meaningful about that particular circumstance, but we never stop trying to see life an much easier way than that. So in a culture where people treat girls unfairly, people needed to find out a leader-to-be for the future, and by all means he would for no reason to be a female. But no boys made it except for a girl who never stopped trying with great determination, isn』t it? A great movie can make it a good story, but a poor one just makes it poor. Like this one. Yes, film makers have to be honest, with or without temptation, being a smart head has no use, not at all.
