Find Your Own Voice

前段時間，室友看完後，感嘆說，詩人都是瘋子。其實，看完後，我想說，詩人都必須是「瘋子」。沒有異於常人的思維，又如何寫出美妙的詩篇？

後來想想，其實，生活中，我們每個人，都應該是別人眼中的「瘋子」才對吧。只是，應試教育，讓我們習慣於去接受，而不是去創造。

印象最深的鏡頭中，有Neil的父親在睡前彎腰將拖鞋擺整齊的畫面跟Neil床上疊得一絲不苟的睡衣。這兩個鏡頭讓我想起上學期英語詩歌課上讀過的一首詩，Wallace 史蒂夫ns 的Disillusionment of Ten O'clock。

          None are green,
          Or purple with green rings,
          Or green with yellow rings,
          Or yellow with blue rings.
          None of them are strange,

          To dream of bamboons and periwinkles.
          Only, here and there, an old sailor,
          Drunk and asleep in his boots,
          Catches Tigers
          In red weather.

記得當時的分析中，曾經提到：「people lack of imagination are spiritually dull and death."

沒有想像力，固然可怕，然而，剝奪別人想像力的，更是可怕。Welton Academy 跟Neil父親所提倡的所謂的tradition跟discipline， 正正是毀了Neil的元兇。

說到Neil的自殺，我想說，與其說他是通過自殺來反抗，我倒覺得，那不過是另一種妥協，對tradition 和 discipline 的妥協。

看到影片的最後，很是糾結。

學生站在課桌上的那一聲聲 「Captain,O,my Captain", 終究沒能留住Mr.Keating。只是，相信，Mr. Keating 的那句 「you must strive to find your own voice」，一定是常駐他的學生心中吧。


另外，Mr. Keating 關於詩歌的見解，也很讓我印象深刻：

「We don't read and write poetry because it's cute.　We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race.　And the human race is filled with passion.　And medicine, law, business, engineering,
these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life.　But poetry,beauty，romance, love, these are what we stay alive for．」

因為我是學英美文學的，因為課程的關係，讀過的詩歌也不算少，以前一直不是太喜歡詩歌這門課，現在，終於開始有點明白，為什麼這麼多人說，詩歌是文學中最重要的最不可缺少的部份了。
