而rockwell falls這個小鎮的名字也恰好有13個字母。
在電影中的那本命理學歷史中，關於聖經的命理學中，4代表團結與堅定。3代表神聖的結合，6代表平衡與和平。
小鎮的人口只有維持在這個數字上方能太平。任何企圖破壞這種平衡的人都要被神聖的意志處決——抽籤犧牲掉或者逃出去被天譴。

任何無意中闖入的人，都被小鎮的居民看做命中注定要加入他們的人。對任何企圖離開的人，都被視為是患有精神熱病的患者，過於反抗者，將會被施以手術，以淨化其靈魂。

小鎮地處偏遠，人們過著一種近乎於與世隔絕的生活，傳統而守舊，就差沒穿上18世紀的衣服了。他們有警官，有鎮長，但是他們更願意遵循自己的法律。所有人都團結而偏執地固守他們的信條，電影在他們處死一名心甘情願赴死的鎮民時達到瘋狂的巔峰。

而小鎮似乎確實被某種邪惡的詛咒所困。影片一開始，一男子駕車狂奔，剛出小鎮，便翻車而亡。男主角剛入小鎮，看見一女子騎馬在鎮邊界落馬。而最終當所有人都以為男主角和小女孩可以逃出生天時，那個噩夢卻真的實現了。

在排除詛咒與命理學外，那種」家庭「的觀念也是眾多溫而不露的變態心理滋生的地方。電影裡面某大媽和藹地對男主角說「這裡沒有什麼比家庭更重要」。而小鎮就像一個大家庭，為了保護家庭的完整，一點犧牲完全是無關緊要的。比如在《複製嬌妻》中，為了達到那種和諧的家庭，淨化掉女性的意識只是一個小小的犧牲罷了。又比如在遊戲《異塵餘生3》中，有一個任務便是2家人在核爆後為了延續家庭，不惜吃掉所有的路人。電影后期，kady在醫生家的地下室裡發現了一家人，他們顯然是被「治癒」的「健康人」，他們住在狹小的牢籠中卻毫不在意，籠中按照居家佈置，女主人還熱情邀請kady做客，大家臉上洋溢著幸福的微笑。當「家庭」成為囚籠時，更多的人選擇的是甘為囚徒。

電影中的警官是一個很有特點的人。他知道這裡的一切並不正常，相對於其他鎮民而言，他算得上為數不多的正常人。他有心上人，但是他的懦弱讓他不敢有任何舉動。即便他知道男主角和他心愛的女子關係不簡單，他想殺了男主角卻做不到。最後他放過了男主角，卻殺了他的搭檔。然後娶了已經被淨化的心上人。最終和這個變態的社會妥協了。其實我們大多數人都是這位警官，在這樣一個變態且浮躁的社會。

電影還有另一個版本的結局，就是男主角帶小女孩成功出逃，並且避免了車禍。
