A brilliant horror fairytale

Recently,Sleepy Hollow could be one of the best movies i've ever seen,though it came out in 1999,a few years ago,only today i got to watch this thrilling yet also romantic movie.But,as i want to tell,it is not just a simple thriller-romance mixed movie,instead,it reaches various fields,it not only talks about love,murder,legend,myth,but also touches upon some sensitive subjects such as religon,belief and self-recognition.
In Sleepy Hollow,Ichabod Crane,played by JOHNNY DEPP was sent to a place called Sleepy Hollow to investigate a murder case due to the fact that he tried to introduce the method of using science to help policemen to investigate crime,which was considered ridiculous and threatening in 紐約 in 1799.In this town called Sleepy Hollow,he found several severed heads among the dark and desolate woods in the forest,many of the residents in town said that they were cut off by a headless German knight who was driven by a thirst for killing and cutting heads off from people,and then killed by some soldiers.Now he was apparently the ghost and suspect of this serial murder case.With science and a curious mind,Crane came to Sleepy Hollow.But what's behind the surface was beyond his imagination.....And the plot shall wait for you to explore.
To talk about this movie definitely brings out the two main characters:JOHNNY DEPP and Christina Ricci.First,i have to say i love JOHNNY DEPP !!!Not only because of his handsome and aristocratic face,but also his great ,sublime and spooky performance.Some of his scenes in this movie are really cute,weird and black-humor simultaneouly.
Christina Ricci (a woman with the face of a child even after nine years since her big screen debut in Mermaids) is perfect as the wide-eyed love interest Katarina Van Tassell .She is not the usual type of beautiful classical woman,but she has such an indescribly pure face that it adds some fairystory elements into this movie,and this aspect certainly helps the movie strengthen its overall style and visual effects.Simply look at her and you can understand why she is pitch perfect for the role.
One of the conversations between Crane and Katrina brings about a talk of religion and science ,which is also a highlight in this movie.

The reason why Crane lost his faith was because of a murder happened in his family,a memory he tried to forget.His mother was killed by his father due to her ''child of nature'' qualities,and his father was characterized as a tyrant of superstitions.This tormenting memory was the cause of his hatred towards religion and superstition and firm belief in scientific analysis,which, to an extent,somehow kept him from using sentimental thoughts to explain some things.
Luckily,in the end,he got out of his own suspicions and doubts,decoded the serial murder case and won his love.I was a little disappointed by the "evil stepmother,kind daughter'' stereotype though.Still,when Crane,Katrina and the little boy got out of the carriage and arrived in 紐約,when Crane said in a gentlemanlike way:Home is this way.I could not help but feel HOPE.
