Theme
It's hard to be a qualified companion sometimes. Because there is always uncertainty in your beloved's side. Yet Rouge shows the positive side of love and put it in the image of Valentine. As the name suggests, Valentine represents the purity of love. Her role persuades you to believe in love and not to be frightened by those who hurt you. This is justified by the judge's altered attitude towards life. The judge, who once only perceived the dark side of people, was even willing to make acquaintance of Valentine's younger brother, a drug-addict, at the end.

The Image of Valentine
The recurrence of Valentine's profile on the ads as well as on the shipwreck cover reveals her innocent image in an associative way. The chewing gum ad makes Valentine look like an innocent child, especially with her eyes staring in the distance, like waiting for something. Hope or love. Perhaps.

The Roles of Men in Rouge
Three major male roles appear in Rouge. They are the judge, the young judge and Valentine's boyfriend. All of them are more or less suspected. The young judge lives the repeated life of the old one. He shows how the judge fell into the dire condition of eavesdropping and suspection. They lived in a paralleled space and time. While Valentine's boyfriend is the stark opposite of Valentine. He is the most suspected and jealous role. He and Valentine also lived in a paralleld world, in which conspicuous contrast can be spotted. All together, there are two comparisons in this little story already.

About Fate
Life runs its course so naturally that nobody could make a twist of it. The young judge lived the life in a similar way as the old judge once did. The younge judge lives just opposite Valentine, yet they never knew of each other even if they were two of the survivors of the shipwreck. This could be what we called life. We could do nothing to change or be in charge of it. Yet we could make sense of it and grasp hope for love and life. Coz' this is the true spirit of human mind.

Relations with another film Bleu
One of the survivors of the shipwreck was Julie, the protagonist of Bleu(the same identity in two films yet appeared only for a sec in Rouge).
A scene appeared both in Rouge and Bleu, in which an elderly lady struggled to push a bottle in a recycling rubbish bin. The contrast is the different reaction of Valentine and Julie in the scene.

OMG. So fun in seeing this kind of movie.
