據影片講，這句話出自聖奧古斯丁。如果是，其真知灼見自是讓我輩欽佩。關於這句話， 本人所看字幕翻譯為「不公正的法律就是沒有法律」，看著特彆扭，自個譯為「不公正的法律不是法律」。見有評論中翻譯為「不能稱之為法律」，這樣更好。

僅對影片時代背景感興趣。原來，之前黑人自有一套獨立的教育系統，只是相對白人，經費投入有五倍的差距。在南方，身為黑人，即便你是開著汽車的大學教授，在面對鄉農的惡意敲詐時，也只能忍氣吞聲。更有故事主人公夜間遭遇黑人同胞被白人暴民私刑處死的恐怖。
