看完這部片子順手在豆瓣上粗略整理了下春風化雨啥啥的電影豆列,
那些關於麻辣鮮師和變態學生的狗血故事在激勵我不斷成長的同時,電影情結和人物性格的設定也在隨著時代價值觀的變化與時俱進。
現在回頭看《死亡詩社》裡的羅賓威廉士,難免很多地方覺得煽過頭的痕跡明顯。《蒙娜麗莎的微笑》裡的朱麗婭羅伯茨的女權思想如今看來就是理所當然。《弦動我心》和《放牛班的春天》的故事那就更加溫和;《搖滾校園》則是前面兩者的嗑藥版⋯⋯
但是,但是,總有些東西在這類電影裡是根深蒂固且勾引你一遍遍地老調重彈,就像所有的「灰姑娘啥啥的電影」或者「有關青春啥啥的電影」,我們最拒絕不了的最俗爛的東西就是真善美。
《歷史系男生》里講了很多。豆瓣里普遍的tag是「英國」,「同志」,這tag得真不是一般得潦草。同志的部份在這部電影裡的比重我還真是說不出來。大部份的時間裡甚至是意識不到的。這是一部電影的拍攝態度。真正的對同性習以為常,真正的尊重,何以把它當成問題來探討。片裡Ponster對Dakin的愛慕和Dakin與Irwen老師之間的情愫,自然感人,尤其小P對著Dakin的那首bewitched,我只能說怦然心動啊。當我們談論愛情時,我們就談愛情。
所以這不是部同志電影,至少not meant to be.
在所有的春風化雨的電影裡,它講的東西比其他的多點;在師生情的濫觴上,它比其他的克制點;片子涉及了關於教育、歷史、文學以及如何去愛。大量的引用,我花了2個半小時來看這部1個半小時的電影。
兩個主要的教師形象雕琢精細豐滿,劇本功夫之深,值得字字斟酌。
Hector的教育方式就是對"civilization"的詮釋。男孩們對Irwin說起Hector的課,很值得引用下。
- It's higher than your stuff. It's nobler.
- Only not useful.
- It makes us more rounded human being.
Hector在文學裡尋找現實生活里沒有的幸福感,他不屑於男孩們對牛津劍橋鑽牛角尖的熱情。他引用濟慈
"Happy is England, sweet her artless daughters. Enough her loveliness for me"
又有,Timms在課上抱怨看不懂poetry of more traditional sort,
- I can't always understand the poetry.
- I never understand it. But learn it now, know it now and you will understand it, whenever.
- I don't see how we can understand it. Most of the poetry's about has happened to us yet.
- But it will. And when it does, you will have the antidote ready. Grief, happiness... even when you are dying, we are making your death beds here.
Irwin是徹底的應試型老師,技術型選手。他聰明敏捷迅速。對於男孩們而言他就像新東方裡的老師,知道怎麼考試,感覺起來又很牛逼。對於大學入學考試,他說"This examination is gonna be everything and anything you know and are." 要學會如何吸引考官的眼球,要語出驚人。片子裡Irwin對歷史的評價很有嚼頭。
"There is no better way of forgetting something than by commemorating it."
"Our perspective on the past alters, and looking back, immediately in front of us is dead ground. Because we don't see it, this means there is no period so remote as recent past. And one of the historians' job is to anticipate what our perspective of that period will be.「
Hector和Irwin的區別,長點的話,用校長的話來解釋就是,"It isn't that he doesn't produce results - he does. But they are unpredictable and unquantifiable. And in the current education climate, that is of no use. There's inspiration. How to quantify it?「 短點用男孩的話來說就是"THOUGHTFUL or SMART?",無論從形式內容和結果來說,H和I都是有所為的,thoughtful和smart描述真心準確,我也沒法找到再準確的描述來描述這個描述。
小P最後成了老師,Hector熱愛的復合式形容詞、虛擬語態會有人傳承下去。其實不是小P的話也總有別人。關於生命中的愛和善,總會傳承的。對於一場人生,就像那必然存在的功利面一樣,對文明的追求也是對立的必然的存在。最後小P說,"I'm not happy,but I'm not unhappy about it." 說話間神情坦然,這叫什麼?這就叫直面慘澹的人生啊。有用沒用是對一個事物最廉價的評價標準,Hector的課,所謂的精神文明給我們的,應該是這樣的勇氣。
