few thoughts re taxuexunmei

today watched a version with length for approximately 1 hour 37 min, should not be the full however had a pretty clear idea of how the story plan out. Awesome portrait of each part from all actors and actresses, shout out for them.

Appears whole script comprises four chapters,1. general crime report with body discovered and investigation kicked off and bits and pieces re relevant parts 2. xunmei: Mei centered including personality, family and life background, 3. lonely soles: respectively states what mei and cong struggle in low end of life and especially mei's transition 4. taxue: cong centered including what he has been through finally leads up to committing the crime.

From observation re script, would have made more sense if Detective Zang, role model with great morality, humanity and dedicating to work obviously, functions as a narrator, whose part in whole movie could have been relatively minimized if primary purpose is to cast on life of marginalized people battling their life on the bottom of society including immigrants, younger generation with worse upbringing financial wise, in the meantime attracts reflection from audience and government and further care and support towards whoever needed.

And personally I find more digging into family background should help building up the characters and story chain, great minds might think alike however restricted by length, cost and many other reasons. lol. Etc: Mei not reporting girl sitting next to her cutting wrist relating the rest of her part is pretty hard to be comprehended. unsure how to interpreter, does it mean she being callous, unsentimental which is obvious not, or feeling award and not confident to address issue where she just moves in tries to fit into. And girl sitting next to you cutting her wrist up, what is the odd that would happen if someone choose to commit suicide. Also would not feel extremely uncomfortable if her not reading bible which pops up only twice as counted in the whole movie,correct me if I am wrong

Above are all just my own speculation however understanding this script comes from real life and it must be challenge for movie crew to piece the story up together and balance out between art, commercial meanwhile minimizing the post-trauma to everyone literally involved in the crime investigation back then.

Overall great story, top-notch performance and Chunxia the young best actress award winner from mainland who is dedicating and born to be an artist, absolutely proud of you.
