LIFE AS A CIRCLE

I thought what keeps me sticking to this biographical movie is the mysterious growing-backward-story. But beneath the idiosyncratic plots, it reveals deep thoughts about love, life and death to the audience.

Benjamin and daisy were meant to be with each other the moment they met. 」 You can be as mad as a mad dog at the way things went. You could swear, curse the fates, but when it comes to the end, you have to let go. 「Benjamin left Daisy while their love was still strong. But neither separation nor contrary aging circle ends the connection. Like Daisy said, 「Some things last.」 I want to make believe that their love could go beyond time, like the flapping wings of hummingbird, and reached infinity.

At the end of the films, following the flashbacks, I see the lives of those people, the unnamed and ordinary passengers of the world. Mr. Daws, the man who got struck by lighting seven times once said, God keeps reminding me I'm lucky to be alive. Mrs. Abbott realized her long-held dream to swim across the English Channel when she was an old lady. Mrs. Maple taught Benjamin to face the death of the loved ones. At a sudden, in this uneventful three-hour movie, I see life as a circle, as transitory, difficult, but as exciting miracle. Like Benjamin once wrote to his daughter: I hope you live a life you're proud of. If you find that you're not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.
